Director Salesforce Platform
Job Details :
Director, Salesforce Platform Strategy and Delivery
Location: Remote, United States
Time-zone preference: Eastern or Central
Employment: Full-time
I’m recruiting a hands-on Director of Salesforce Platform Strategy and Delivery for my client, an established enterprise software company entering a significant period of commercial and operational transformation.
Salesforce is central to the business and connected to numerous teams, processes, and applications. The company has a mature environment, a substantial backlog, meaningful technical debt, growing integration demand, and several major business initiatives competing for limited platform capacity.
This role will bring structure to that environment while helping the team deliver. It is not a position for someone who wants to sit above the work, attend steering meetings, and delegate execution. The director must be willing and able to participate directly in triage, requirements, backlog management, solution decisions, QA, UAT, releases, deployments, troubleshooting, documentation, and platform improvement.
The Opportunity
The company has capable Salesforce professionals and is adding both leadership and engineering capacity. What it needs now is a single platform leader who can connect business priorities to disciplined execution.
You will be expected to:
· Own the Salesforce roadmap and platform operating model.
· Control intake, triage, qualification, prioritization, and escalation.
· Turn a large and varied backlog into a sequenced, actionable body of work.
· Balance urgent business demand with maintenance, platform reliability, and technical-debt remediation.
· Establish predictable QA, UAT, release, deployment, and production-validation practices.
· Work hands-on with administrators, developers, business users, and leadership.
· Help clarify requirements and acceptance criteria before work begins.
· Evaluate Flow, Apex, integrations, managed packages, and configuration decisions.
· Improve documentation, knowledge transfer, and platform ownership.
· Participate in technology and integration decisions before new tools are purchased.
· Communicate capacity, dependencies, risks, and trade-offs clearly to executives.
· Push back constructively when a request is incomplete, unscalable, or not the highest priority.
This Is a Hands-On Director Role
This position combines leadership with practical platform work. You should be comfortable:
· Running a roadmap and backlog session in the morning
· Helping qualify or troubleshoot a Salesforce request later that day
· Reviewing a Flow, Apex design, integration approach, or security implication
· Coordinating UAT and resolving defects
· Preparing a release and supporting deployment
· Documenting decisions and ensuring the team follows through
You do not need to be the primary developer, but you must understand the work well enough to guide it, challenge it, test it, and help move it forward. If you prefer to operate exclusively through managers, architects, and project plans, this will not be the right opportunity.
What You’ll Inherit
· A mature, highly utilized Salesforce environment
· A substantial backlog spanning support, enhancements, integrations, and larger initiatives
· Legacy automation and technical debt requiring structured remediation
· Significant demand from multiple business functions
· A small existing team with strong institutional and technical knowledge
· Inconsistent intake, prioritization, QA, release, and documentation practices
· Major platform and commercial changes that require a disciplined roadmap
· Executive support for strengthening the team and operating model
This is an opportunity to create order, increase delivery quality, reduce risk, and leave the platform materially stronger than you found it.
Required Experience
· Significant experience leading and working hands-on in mature Salesforce environments
· Ownership of a Salesforce roadmap, backlog, release process, or platform operating model
· Strong Sales Cloud and core-platform knowledge
· Experience with intake, requirements, prioritization, QA, UAT, releases, and deployments
· Practical experience across configuration, Flow, data, security, integrations, and solution design
· Enough Apex knowledge to review technical decisions and work credibly with developers
· Experience balancing competing priorities across Sales, Customer Success, Support, Finance, Partners, or similar functions
· Ability to communicate clearly with both technical contributors and senior executives
· Demonstrated willingness to challenge poor process and unscalable requests constructively
· A leadership style based on accountability, clarity, and direct contribution
Valuable Additional Experience
· Salesforce CPQ, Revenue Cloud, or quote-to-cash transformation
· SaaS product, pricing, quoting, or commercial-model changes
· Service Cloud, Data Cloud, Agentforce, or AI-assisted Salesforce workflows
· Salesforce DevOps, Git-based source control, automated testing, and release pipelines
· Legacy Workflow Rule and Process Builder remediation
· Complex integrations and managed-package evaluation
· Work with implementation partners while maintaining strong internal platform ownership
· Enterprise software or private-equity-backed company experience
Who Will Thrive
You will likely thrive in this role if you:
· Enjoy fixing both systems and the processes around them
· Can create structure without slowing everyone down
· Know how to separate urgent work from important work
· Are comfortable telling a senior stakeholder “not yet” and explaining why
· Respect institutional knowledge without being constrained by existing habits
· Care about maintainability, documentation, and testing
· Want visible ownership of an important enterprise platform
· Still like getting close to the work
Location
This is a full-time remote position open to candidates in the United States. Candidates in the Eastern or Central time zones are preferred because of the team’s collaboration needs.
